In detail

Studio Design Advice

This service is for broadcasters and producers building a new television studio or reworking an existing one. We turn your programme needs into a floor plan and equipment layout, and explain each decision so your engineers can build from it with confidence.

Studio Design Advice
Floor plans and set positions
We draw the studio floor with set areas, camera movement paths and audience or guest space where relevant. The plan shows clear walking routes so crews can move without crossing live shots.
Cable routes and equipment layout
We plan where cables run, where wall boxes sit and how racks are arranged. The aim is a tidy installation that is easy to trace and repair when something fails.
Control room positioning
We advise on where the control room sits in relation to the floor, including sight lines, talkback and distance to the equipment. We note options where the building limits the choice.
Written rationale for each choice
Each major decision is recorded with the reason behind it. If you later change a camera count or move a set, you can see which parts of the plan are affected.

Useful to have ready: room dimensions, any existing drawings, the planned programme formats and the number of cameras and crew you expect to use.

How it works

From first message to finished plan

Each service follows the same order of work, which we scale to the size of the job. You will know at each stage what we are doing and what we need from you.

  1. Send an enquiry

Use the contact page to describe your studio, programme or event. Include dates, location and anything already decided. We read it carefully and reply with any questions.

  2. Scope and quotation

We agree what the work covers and send a written quotation. It states what is included and what would change the cost, so you can decide with the full picture.

  3. Review and planning

We study your drawings and equipment lists, visit if needed, and prepare plots, layouts or schedules. Questions come back to you in writing so decisions are kept on record.

  4. Revision with your crew

We go through the drafts with your engineers and producers, then change what does not fit your way of working. The final documents reflect what you have agreed.

  5. Handover and invoice

You receive the finished documents, or the training session is held. We then issue an invoice, payable by bank transfer, and remain available for follow-up questions.

Plain-spoken guidance on studio design, camera control, lighting, sound and workflow for television networks and live events. Based in Colchester, working across the UK.
